Antiquing is a more involved form of distressing where I not only age a piece, but also create an antique appearance. In addition to distressing the finish, I may reapply historical paint colours, dark wax, antique-like faux finishes and crackle varnishes or Gilding in gold or bronze leaf to enhance the ambiance of the piece. I also pay particular attention to period accent details, such as the addition of antique knobs or handles. I teach this process in my beginners workshop classes from my studio in Ashford.
